As the curtains close on the EDSSI L2 EU Student eCard Conference & Training event, we reflect on two days filled with insightful discussions, valuable training sessions, and inspiring presentations. Gathering together approximately 120 attendees from 23 European countries, the event brought together a diverse range of stakeholders, including service providers for student cards, IT staff from Higher Education Institutions, International Relations Officers, and representatives from National Agencies and Ministries.
Ahead of the 2-day event, participants met online for the first training session which delved into the crucial role of the European Digital Student Service Infrastructure Level 1, highlighting its significant contributions in mainstreaming the European Student Identifier (ESI) and deploying the IdP of last resort. Attendees actively contributed through the Slido platform, engaging with moderators and one another, and sharing their experiences and innovative solutions.
The 2-day event commenced with two engaging training sessions that provided in-depth knowledge and practical insights. In the training session “The EU student eCard platform”, participants had the opportunity to explore the world of eCards through two use cases: the Berlin Campus Card app and the eCard developed by the University of Malaga. These examples showcased the potential of eCards in revolutionizing student services and enhancing the student experience.
On the other hand, the training session “eSignatures and CEF Building Blocks in the Erasmus+ context”, focused on the implementation of CEF building blocks, specifically eSignatures and eArchives. Participants were taken on a journey through the eSignature platform developed by Swedish Research Council – one of the project partners – eduSign, which served as a proof of concept for integrating eSignatures into the Online Learning Agreement. Additionally, a live demonstration showcased the student housing web application developed by Studierendenwerk Karlsruhe – EDSSI L2 project partner – intended to allow service providers to streamline their housing offers and provide incoming students with vital information ahead of their arrival.
The conference day itself brimmed with stimulating panel discussions and thought-provoking presentations from a distinguished lineup of speakers. Policy officers from the European Commission’s DG CNECT, project partners from Higher Education Institutions and HEI networks, representatives from National Research and Education Networks (NRENs), and business providers shared their expertise and perspectives.
Topics of discussion ranged from the evolution of the EDSSI to the EU digital identity wallet, as well as the policy landscape surrounding the European Student Card. Business providers working with eCards also showcased their innovative solutions, highlighting the seamless integration of digital services for students.
The event fostered knowledge exchange and attendees left the conference equipped with new insights, practical strategies, and a renewed commitment to adopt the solutions presented within their own institutions.
